Yeah, seen that this morning. I don't know much about the comparisons
between performances of Athlons and Intels, but would it be as
meaningless as the Cyrix relative ratings? When Cyrix were doing that,
the only thing which was as fast as the relative rating was the
integer unit, their FPUs were crap.

And you'll still get people saying the same as just now, that you
can't really compare the different processors because the test program
doesn't use optimised instruction blah blah for the PIV/Altivec/3dNow.

Oh, and the other thing I saw is that as well as the relative ratings,
AMD is going to call their latest bunch of CPUs "Athon XP". Blegh.

Surely we had those 20-odd years ago ;p

The nice thing is the 64bitness of the G5, and that it will still run
the 32bit code at full speed (would it require a re-compile?). Should
give a nice upgrade path to OS5 </crystal ball> which is supposed to
be 64 bit only, while AMD are still hacking away with the claw end of
a hammer ;)
